How Do YOU Work?

Over at Lifehacker – the best site for interesting things – they have a series of articles that talk about how people work. Not what they do, but how they do it. For some reason, it got me wondering how many of you freelancing readers out there are working your freelancing. Every person is different when it comes to their working style and freelancing is no different, however with freelancing, you can basically work whenever and wherever you want.

Okay, there is that difference.

But if you’re new to freelancing, how should you be working?

The Ups and Downs of Windows 10

As of yesterday, it has been one month since Windows 10 became the official new release of the Windows operating systems and I have now spent that month having it on both my laptop and my desktop. You’ll remember the previous entries detailed the good and bad of trying to actually install Windows 10 and now that I have, what exactly do I think? Well, I’ll tell you, but first a disclaimer –

As you are a freelancing crowd, I’m sure you’ve already done your homework about Windows 10. This is totally not a review of Windows 10, but a little opinion piece that can hopefully add to the reviews you’ve been reading. With that said, I will say that I’ll be saying things in contradictory form against some of these reviews, so you know – research before you decide to make the plunge!

Windows 10 is Here and It’s…Complicated

So, in my last post, I gushed how little issue I had with installing Windows 10 on my laptop. Other than needing to do a reinstall, which I had planned to do as a clean install anyway, everything went smoothly.

And then I got the official notification of Windows 10 on my desktop.

Desktop install – One week later 8/7

Literally one week to the day of the official launch of Windows 10, my desktop gives me the official announcement that I can upgrade it from Windows 7. And there was much rejoicing. I had been wanting to try Windows 10 on Optimus Prime for quite some time now, as it’s faster and has a bigger screen. Surely, the upgrade from 7 to 10 would be much quicker and more rewarding on my desktop, right?

No. Not at all.

Windows 10 is Here and It’s…Well…

Oh readers, how nice to see you again!

Sorry, apologies, and all that stuff, so let’s get down to the nitty gritty.

Windows 10.

By now, you all know that Microsoft’s latest operating system is out and about and if you’re one of the millions who is running either Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, your copy is totally free (as long as you do it in a year). And you all know that I’ve been looking forward to the official release, even throwing my laptop in for the Technical Preview. Well, I can say that I now have it on both computers and the verdict is…

Um…complicated actually.

Windows 10 Is Coming! Should You Get It?

By now, you must have heard that Windows 10 is official and coming to PCs at the end of next month. It’s a huge undertaking for Microsoft, who not only need to shed off the stigma of Windows 8, but make it so people (read: businesses) will actually want to upgrade from Windows 7 (or XP). The technical preview has been out for a while and Microsoft is getting a ton of feedback from the current users (including me), but all of it amounts to nothing if you can’t use it for your freelancing purposes.

So…will Windows 10 be worth it?

Windows 8/8.1/10 Apps for Your Freelancer

Welcome to 2015, fans! If you’ll remember from our last time together, we looked at some gifts to get the freelancer in your life (or yourself if you were good last year) and I talked a little about my super buy of a Windows 8.1 laptop. And in today’s post, I’m combining both of them. Read the rest of this entry
